The process of enlistment

  • 1.Enlistment to tentative list
  • -In order to apply for a world heritage, the property should be listed in a tentative list prior to one year. Unlisted heritages cannot be registered as a World Heritage Site.

    Unlisted heritages cannot be registered as a World Heritage Site.

    -The member states should submit a provisional listing with the participation regional agents,

    regional governments, and local organizations, and should be listed on the tentative list through the review of

    the UNESCO World Heritage Committee.

    -Each of the countries will select two of the heritages from the tentative list (including Natural Heritage 1) each

    year to complete the application of the World Heritage List.

  • 2. Application of Enlistment
    Preparation and submission
  • -The application for registration shall include all supporting documents and maps to convey the value of the

    property. It can be submitted to the UNESCO World Heritage Center in Paris on February 1 with the national

    title, and if it is verified with its authenticity, it can become a candidate for a world heritage.

    -Preliminary application reception : every September 30

    Preliminary application reception :Provides opportunities to revise before final reception, every September 30.

    -Final Application Reception : every February 1

    Applications may be available throughout the year, however, the application which is received over the 1st of February, will be delivered to the next year,

    World Heritage Center requests the applications that are received before February 1st only to advisory organizations.

  • 3.Advisory
    Body Evaluation
  • -The nominated candidate will be evaluated by the UNESCO advisory committee designated by the World

    Heritage Convention. Assessment is conducted by assessment of application documents and specialists in

    expert evaluation. Assessment result is classified in four stages, (Inscribe)-(Referral)-(Deferral)-(Not inscribe) and will be submitted to World Heritage Committee

    -UNESCO evaluation advisory organizations

    Cultural Heritage : (ICOMOS)

    Natural Heritage : (IUCN)

    Complex Heritage :Evaluated by both ICOMOS and IUCN

  • 4. World Heritage
    Decision of committees
  • -The World Heritage Committee is responsible for the listing of candidates whose identities end up as a World

    Heritage Site. In the event of a total of 40 global heritages passed through the assessment, the Committee

    may decide to decide or postpone the listing through a meeting held between June and July every year.

    -Decision of nomination will be published in four stages, (Inscribe)-(Referral)-(Deferral)-(Not inscribe) in

    consideration of the recommendation of the Advisory Body. In addition, if the decision is made as ' Inscribe

    ' or ' Referral ', it has to wait 1 year for re-evaluation, and it is impossible to register, if it is judged as a ' not inscribe '.
