금관가야계가 신라사회에서 표방했던 시조 출자전승은 시조 수로의 “天降金卵 出生說”과 “少昊金天氏 出自說”의 두 유형이 있었고, 그들이 칭한 성씨도 ‘金氏’와 “新金氏”의 두 종류가 있었다. 하나의 혈연집단인 금관가야계에서 서로 다른 시조 출자전송과 성씨가 보이는 것은 각각 그것을 표방한 시대가 달랐기 때문이다. 금관가야계는 6세기말에 처음으로 김씨를 칭하면서, 시조 출자전숭으로는 “천강금란 출생설”을 내세웠고, 중대초에 이르러서는 시조 출자전승을 “소호금천씨 출자설”로 바꾸어 표방하였다. 이는 중대 왕실과 동일한 혈족으로 인식되었음을 보여주는 것으로 금관가야계의 정치ㆍ사회적 위상을 잘 보여주는 것이다. 이러한 금관가야계와 중대 왕실의 동일 혈족의식은 성덕왕대를 고비로 점차 약화되기 시작했으며, 혜공왕대를 거치면서 금관가야계의 위상은 크게 낮아졌다. 그리하여 중대말ㆍ하대초에 다시 “천강금란 출자설”로 回歸하게 되었고, 다시 9세기 후반에는 김씨 칭성을 규제 당하면서 新金氏를 칭하게 되었다. 그러나 신김씨 칭성기간은 그리 길지 않았다. 10세기 중엽부터 각 지의 호족들이 다양한 성씨를 칭하는 사회적 분위기 속에서 다시 김씨 칭성으로 되돌아갔기 때문이다. 이와 같은 금관가야계의 시조 출자전승과 칭성의 변화에는 그들의 신라사회에서의 현실적인 정치ㆍ사회적 위상 변화가 배경이 되었다.
초록(영문)
The theories on the origins of the 'Kumkwankaya(金官伽倻)' generations who had a leading role in the Silla society can be categorized into two. One is that the original ancestor was born out of an egg, the other, a descendent of the 'Sohokumchun(小昊金天)' family. And also there were two ways to name the 'Kumkwankaya' generations, which were 'Kim(金)' and 'New Kim(新金).' These differences on the original ancestor and family name can be explained by that the descendents of the 'Kumkwankaya' adjusted themselves to different political situations through periods. The descendents of the 'Kumkwankaya' in the late 6th century believed that their original ancestor was born out of an egg, and called themselves 'Kim.' Around 650, however, they adopted the other theory that the founder of their family stemmed from the 'Sohokumchun' family. This indicates that they became so powerful politically and socially, that they could claim they were equal to the ruling royal family in the middle period of the Silla dynasty(中代). But they returned to the original position and their consciousness of royal family became weaker in the late 8th century, when their political and social position was insecure during the rules of King Sungduk(聖德王) and King Hyekong(惠恭王). So the late 9th century saw that they were using the 'New Kim.' All this can explains that the beliefs of the 'Kumkwankaya' generations on their origin had been depended on the their political and social position in the Slila society.
